Everything You Need to Know About 2025 Performance & Luxury Focused SUVs On Sale. The Ultimate SUV Buyers Guide And Our Pick of the Best New SUV.
Over the past two or three decades, the sport utility vehicle segment has become the predominant figure in the automotive world. Catering to needs of the archetypal modern family – and in many respects, society as a whole - the SUV is now a cornerstone of routine daily life and a reflection of the current economic climate. While SUVs will always boast utilitarianism as being their greatest feature, they’ve also come a long way from being tied to the “soccer mom” label (often mockingly). As both SUVs and their customer base have evolved, a palette for high performance variants has also developed.
This has prompted the world’s most renown luxury and performance brands to pivot their attention here and address the demands for a faster, better and sexier sport utility vehicle. Every major automaker in the world recognizes that success in this market has never been more lucrative to their bottom lines; even the most niche and exotic marques such as Lamborghini and Ferrari, are also looking to stake their claim.
Lately, it would be no exaggeration to say that SUV sales have become the bread and butter of many of these companies. With that said, even the most ardent sports car enthusiasts should refrain from scoffing at this fact. Why? For one, the profits are hugely important in order for these companies to continue bankrolling the fun stuff – developing and producing the sports cars that they’re most famous for. This process then comes full circle when supercar and high-performance technologies trickle back down to the SUVs, expanding the target market to a wider range of buyers than before. Ideally, this will continue to drive sales and keep the wheel spinning, so to speak. Because of this, we’ve been treated to some pretty insane SUVs of late, with many more in the pipeline.
We’ve listed all the SUVs you can buy today which fall under these categories and have a conventional bias towards sportiness. In a separate list, we’ll focus on the more utilitarian and luxury-oriented Performance Sports Saloons and the best Current Supercar & Exotic cars.
What's New for 2025
No many. Most of the SUVs on this list have been around for a number of years and have minor updates for the 2025 model year. But no exciting newcomers or big news.

2025 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio
Our Take: Dynamically, the most fun SUV on the market.
Overview
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is a high-performance SUV that injects Italian passion and driving excitement into a segment often dominated by German pragmatism. It distinguishes itself with a Ferrari-derived 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that roars to life with 505 horsepower, propelling the Stelvio Quadrifoglio from 0 to 60 mph in a blistering 3.6 seconds. This exhilarating acceleration is accompanied by a symphony of exhaust notes that will quicken the pulse of any driving enthusiast.
But the Stelvio Quadrifoglio is more than just a straight-line rocket. Its meticulously tuned chassis, responsive steering, and performance-oriented all-wheel-drive system deliver exceptional handling and agility, making it a joy to pilot on winding roads. The Brembo brakes provide confident stopping power, ensuring you can harness all that power with control. The exterior design is a blend of elegance and aggression, with subtle aerodynamic enhancements and quad exhaust tips hinting at the performance that lies within.
Inside, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio offers a sporty yet luxurious cabin. Supportive sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with prominent paddle shifters, and carbon fiber accents create a driver-focused environment. While the interior may not be as technologically advanced as some competitors, it prioritizes the driving experience above all else. With its blend of exhilarating performance, Italian flair, and everyday practicality, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio stands out as a unique and compelling choice in the high-performance SUV segment.
Pricing & What's New
The 2025 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio isn't cheap, starting at $94,965 and goes up to $96,625 depending on the trim and options.
Base: Starting at $94,965
100th Anniv: Starting at $96,625
You can add a lot to your Stelvio QV, but frankly we wouldn't. Base Stelvio QV with Carbon package that dresses the exterior mirrors and V-shaped grille and all set. The Stelvio QF 100th Anniversario is a styling exercise so not worth it in our opinion.
What They're Saying
The Stelvio Quadrifoglio is a riot to drive. It's a true performance SUV that can tackle corners with the agility of a sports car, yet it's still practical enough for everyday use. The engine is a masterpiece, delivering exhilarating acceleration and a soundtrack that will make you want to find excuses to drive. - Car and Driver

707: Starting at $256,086
You can go bananas picking through personalization options for the DBX, especially through Aston Martin's Q customization service.
What They're Saying
It's a tough one...The DBX provides something different...It looks interesting, goes really very well and hits all the targets...The 707 is the really interesting one. Yes, it's faster and more aggressive if pushed, but when you back off it's every bit as comfortable and undemanding as the regular car. - Top Gear
2025 Audi SQ5
Our Take: Comfortable and fast SUV

Otherwise, the sporty SQ5 shares in the new Q5's 2025 updates, including fresh exterior and interior styling, with an emphasis on blending modern tech with traditional Audi luxury touchpoints—including a variety of upholstery and trim choices.

What They're Saying
The SQ5 is a well-rounded performance SUV that offers comfort and power, but it doesn't deliver the most engaging driving experience. - Motor Trend
2025 Audi SQ7
Our Take: Perfect family SUV for enthusiasts

Under the hood, you'll find a powerful twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, delivering an impressive 500 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. These include a revised front bumper with larger air intakes, a unique grille design, quad exhaust tips, and distinctive wheel options. With its potent engine, luxurious interior, and advanced technology, the 2025 Audi SQ7 is a compelling option in the luxury SUV segment.
Audi has revealed refreshed versions of the Q7 and SQ7 for 2025 model year. It gets new front and rear fascia with a reshaped grille, higher mounted headlights, and new daytime running-lights.
A new front spoiler and color-framed air intakes while the rear gets a new diffuser and revised taillamps. Given the small difference between the Premium Plus and Prestige, it makes sense to go for the latter. It adds a head-up display, power soft-close doors, and the Executive package (dual -pane side windows, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and more).
What They're Saying
The SQ7 blends mega performance and SUV practicality in a well-appointed, versatile family-worthy package. - Car and Driver
2025 Audi SQ8
Our Take: She is a stunner. Solid and safe choice.
Overview
The five-seat Audi SQ8 blends streamlined coupe-like design with SUV versatility. It’s powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine pushing 500 horsepower to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard, and competitors include the BMW X6 and Land Rover Range Rover Velar. It is close to the performance of the RSQ8 and costs a lot less money, making it one of the best overall picks from the performance Audi SUV range.
The 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine, same as the SQ7, remains praised for its "explosive power" and "exhilarating soundtrack." Car and Driver notes its 503 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque provide "brutal acceleration," while Top Gear appreciates its "effortless performance." Reviewers find the cabin to be "comfortable and quiet," with "high-quality materials" and a "plush feel." Kelley Blue Book mentions the "supportive seats" and "ample cargo space," while Auto Express highlights the "tech-laden" features.
The 2025 Audi SQ8 now comes standard with LED interior lighting and traffic sign recognition across all trim levels. Prestige models add standard massaging front seats with memory function. Two new packages are also available: the Carbon package adds carbon fiber accents to the exterior mirror housings, door inlays, and rear light cover, while the Audi Sport package brings red accent stitching to the seats, center console, and door armrests, along with striking red seatbelts.
Pricing & What's New
The 2025 Audi SQ8 pricing starts at $98,895 and goes up to $106,195 depending on the trim you choose.
Premium Plus: Starts at $98,895
Prestige: Starts at $106,195
Like the rest of the Audi range, opting for the more expensive Prestige package is worth it. It isn't much more expensive and includes some tasty extras.
It comes with a host of driver-assistance and luxury features that include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, a head-up display, soft-close doors, heated rear seats, and power rear sunshades.
What They're Saying
The SQ8 is a thrilling performer with a luxurious interior, but its high price and thirsty engine hold it back from being a practical choice for most. - Car and Driver
2025 Audi RS Q8
Our Take: A sexier, equally awesome Urus for way less money.
Overview
The Audi RS Q8 is the fastest version of the Q8 SUV and also the only RS-badged Audi SUV on the North American market. It's also among the quickest SUVs around the Nordschleife too, meaning that it's quite agile for an SUV you can ferry the kids to-and-from school in.
The RS Q8 comes with a six-figure price tag, but its performance, styling, and feature content are worth the investment—if you value white-hot SUVs, of course. All RS Q8 models come with a standard adaptive air suspension system, 22-inch wheels, heated-and-cooled front seats, and a 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo system. We'd go with the top-spec Performance trim to uncork the higher 631 horsepower rating. When you're spending this kind of money, why not go all the way?
The RS Q8 receives a styling refresh for 2025 to bring it in line with the Q8 and SQ8 models, which were facelifted last year. But the real treat is the new 631-hp Performance trim. The Performance model not only offers more horsepower, but it also comes with a self-locking center differential, a specially-tuned exhaust system, and a unique suspension that uses electric motors to help stabilize the RS Q8 in corners.
Pricing & What's New
The price of the 2025 Audi RS Q8 starts at $145,000.
RS Q8: Starting at $145,000
This is not a cheap SUV, but if you think of it as a Lamborghini Urus for less than half the money, it starts to make sense. You can option up the RS Q8, but even in basic form it is an absolute peach of a machine.
What They're Saying
Better looking than the Lambo Urus, phenomenal performance and handling, hugely expensive… ideal if you need a supercar and an SUV rolled into one - Top Gear
2025 Bentley Bentayga
Our Take: Refinement you expect with performance to match. Best SUV right now.
Overview
The cutting-edge V8 engine delivers almost 550 horsepower, while its torquey nature results in near instant acceleration, pulling like a train in utmost comfort and first class luxury. The Bentayga V8 handles great and it's more agile than you would ever expect. Bentley's environmentally friendly take on the Bentayga sees the SUV powered by a 335 horsepower 3.0-liter petrol V6 and a 162 horsepower E motor paired to a 17.3 kWh Li-ion battery.
With this model, Bentley sacrificed power and speed in favor of fuel economy, but with 443 horsepower on tap, the Bentayga Hybrid is no slouch. Bentley also didn't cut on luxury, so the 2024 Bentayga Hybrid still provides the same luxurious experience for its occupants. In terms of trims, there is the Bentayga A trim, which gives you the same power and performance as the standard BV8 model, but you get 21 inch wheels, a few more luxuries inside, and amenities aimed towards longer distance drives.
The Bentayga S is a distilled and more sporty take on the V8 model, with visual upgrades over the baseline car, including Blackline trim as standard and Bentayga Speed bumpers, as well as special five-spoke 22-inch wheels as standard. The Bentayga Azure has multiple internal configurations and also features every driver aid, bell, whistle, and kitchen sink that Bentley has made for their SUV.
For 2024, the Bentayga got a hybrid option at every trim level, and the W12 is no longer available for this model. The rest of the lineup gets some basic updates from the design department. Things are carried over for 2025 mostly unchanged.
Pricing & What's New
The 2025 Bentley Bentayga starts at $205,925 for the base V8 or Hybrid and goes up to a whopping $249,125 for the Azure V8, and that's before you go for the options.
V-8: Starts at $205,925
Hybrid: Starts at $205,925
A V-8: Starts at $218,025
A Hybrid: Starts at $218,025
S V-8: Starts at $243,025
S Hybrid: Starts at $235,025
Azure Hybrid: Starts at $240,925
Azure V-8: Starts at $249,125
Get the Bentayga S. It has the same V8 engine but tuned for sharper handling and quicker acceleration. It offers great driving dynamics without compromising on comfort and opulence. Gets blacked-out exterior elements, larger alloy wheels, and a more aggressive front bumper. It gets a better sports mode, better brakes and an optional carbon fiber.
What They're Saying
The new Bentayga is a subtle evolution, but it's clear that Bentley has listened to feedback and made some key improvements. - Autocar
2025 Bentley Bentayga EWB
Our Take: A more practical family SUV with added space and the same luxury.
Overview
The Bentley Bentayga EWB is the Extended Wheel Base version of the luxurious SUV, turning it into a large limousine. The vehicle in total gains 180mm distance between the wheels, which gives the rear seats massive legroom. It can be optioned to have two separate recliner seats in the rear, or a three seat version that doesn't recline but enjoys the added legroom.
Apart from the extra room, the EWB comes as standard with 21 inch wheels even on the base model, and enjoys the same performance as the base Bentayga without losing any time 0 to 60 or in top speed. It also gains a Mulliner version (pictured above), with the most exclusive triple-color layout, available in eight unique colorways.
The Bentayga continued with the range-topping Mulliner trim for 2025. This trim includes unique exterior design elements and can be specified in almost 4000 different interior color combinations. The Mulliner can be had only with the Bentayga's extended-wheelbase body and the V-8 engine.
Pricing & What's New
The 2025 Bentley Bentayga EWB starts at $236,850 for the base V8 and goes up to a whopping $339,150 for the EWB Mulliner.
EWB: Starts at $236,850
EWB A: Starts at $245,250
EWB Azure: Starts at $274,550
EWB Mulliner: Starts at $339,150
The extended-wheelbase version offering increased legroom and comfort for rear passengers. The base EWB is our pick.
What They're Saying
Whether the Mulliner EWB offers enough customization compared to standalone Mulliner models is yet to be determined. - Evo

This power is channeled through an eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system, allowing the X3 M to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.9 seconds.
Beyond its impressive straight-line speed, the X3 M excels in handling and agility. A sport-tuned suspension, adaptive dampers, and M-specific tuning transform this SUV into a corner-carving machine. The steering is precise and responsive, providing excellent feedback to the driver. Large brakes ensure confident stopping power, even during spirited driving. In typical BMW fashion the X3 M gets a price bump for the 2025 model year. For that, you now get... well... a BMW X3 M, exactly the same as the 2024 model year version because the X3 M arrives for the new model year with no significant changes.
Pricing & What's New
Hope you are sitting down, because the price of the 2025 BMW X3 M starts at a whopping $76,495 and goes up to $83,495 if you opt for the Competition variant.
X3 M: Starts at $76,495
X3 M Competition: Starts at $83,495
In addition to the extra power and upgraded equipment, the Competition model gets a sick-looking gloss-black grille and mirror caps and an amazing sounding sport exhaust as standard. Add in the standard black 21-inch wheels (versus 20s on the regular M) and the upgraded Merino leather interior, and it is easy to see why this is our pick.
There are tons of options, but we'd keep it kind of simple, especially because we're already talking over $80k for BMW cheapest M-badged SUV.
What They're Saying
The X3 M is seriously quick. It rockets out of corners and handles beautifully. - Car and Driver
2025 BMW X4 M
Our Take: Lots of horsepower, quick acceleration, deft handling.

The X4 M exhibits remarkable agility for an SUV, with a responsive chassis that encourages spirited driving. Distinctive design elements like a sloping roofline, sculpted rear end, and aggressive front fascia set it apart from the more traditional X3 M.
Inside, the X4 M offers a luxurious and driver-focused environment. Sport seats provide excellent support during spirited maneuvers, while a thick-rimmed steering wheel and M-specific displays enhance the driving experience. The cabin is also packed with technology, including a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. With its blend of performance, style, and practicality, the BMW X4 M is a compelling choice for those seeking a unique and thrilling driving experience.
In typical BMW fashion the X4 M gets a price bump for the 2025 model year. For that, you now get... well... a BMW X4 M, exactly the same as the 2024 model year version because the X4 M arrives for the new model year with no significant changes.
