Toleman
Toleman, a British racing team, holds a notable place in Formula One history for its role in the early career of Ayrton Senna, one of the sport’s greatest drivers. Founded in 1977 by Ted and Bob Toleman, the team initially competed in lower racing categories before making its Formula One debut in 1981. Despite being a relatively small and underfunded team, Toleman gained significant attention in 1984 when Senna joined as a rookie driver. Senna’s remarkable talent shone through, particularly during the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix, where he drove a Toleman TG184 in wet conditions to finish second, challenging for the win. This performance marked the beginning of Senna’s legendary career and highlighted Toleman’s potential as a competitive force. Although Toleman was eventually sold and became the foundation for the Benetton team, its legacy endures through its pivotal contributions to Formula One and the early development of one of the sport’s icons.
