Car Of The Day: 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster

Produced from 2003 until 2010, the SLR McLaren was a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and their Formula 1 partner McLaren. This partnership brought together a wealth of experience to create a high-performance machine that echoed the spirit of the legendary 1955 300 SLR. Just like its predecessor, the SLR incorporated cutting-edge technology for its time.

The SLR’s engine, built at Mercedes-Benz’s AMG performance division, is a 5.5-litre, 24-valve, supercharged V8 that produces 617bhp, making it one of the most powerful engines ever in a series-produced road-going sports car. While the peak horsepower is impressive, the torque generated by this advanced supercharged motor is its most remarkable feature.

The SLR McLaren delivers performance figures that remain among the best in its class. It accelerates from 0 to 60 in just 3.8 seconds, reaches 125 mph in 10.6 seconds, and hits 186 mph from a standstill in just 28.8 seconds. This two-seater boasts a top speed of 207 mph.
