A well-known name in Australian motor sport circles, Brian Foley commenced racing during the 1950s behind the wheel of an Austin A30. He soon moved on to other BMC cars, including an A40 Farina, Lancer, Austin-Healey Sprite and the mighty Mini Cooper S, though the late 1960s and early ’70s found Foley driving some potent Alfa Romeos and Porsches. In addition to his many successes in race meetings across Australia, Foley was also successful internationally in places like Malaysia and Singapore. Recently Vintage Racecar’s South Pacific Editor Patrick Quinn caught up with Foley at his home south of Sydney, Australia, to discuss his diverse career.
My first memory of you was in an Austin Lancer, but you tell me that it goes way back before that?
