They Started in MGs
This very interesting softcover book is actually a collection of articles that author Goodwin originally penned as part of a series for Classic MG magazine, and includes many names with which we have become familiar through their contributions to the history of our sport. The common link between them all, as the title suggests, is that each of their racing careers began behind the wheel of an MG.
Among the more well known racers whose thumbnail profiles appear here are the Collier brothers (Miles and Sam), Briggs Cunningham, John Fitch (who wrote the book’s Foreword), Richie Ginther, Phil Hill, Bob Holbert, Ed Hugus, Bill Lloyd, Jack McAfee, Ken Miles, Bill Milliken and Carroll Shelby, to identify but a dozen of the nearly 80 entries. There are other names you will probably recognize, and some possibly not, but still their stories merit telling.
The illuminative words are accompanied by an excellent selection of eclectic photographs and illustrations that lend a further glimpse into the lives and careers of these stars of our sport. All in all it makes for a superb compendium of background information about these heroes of speed.
