Overview
The Aston Martin DB11 is a grand tourer that represents a significant milestone in Aston Martin's history, marking the beginning of the brand's "Second Century Plan" for revitalization and future growth. Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016, the DB11 was designed to succeed the DB9 and usher in a new era of technology, performance, and style for the iconic British manufacturer. It is available in coupe and Volante (convertible) body styles.
The DB11 showcases a bold evolution of Aston Martin's traditional design language, combining classic GT proportions with modern design cues. Aerodynamic performance is enhanced through innovative solutions like the "AeroBlade," a virtual spoiler fed by air intakes located at the base of the C-pillars, which channels air through the bodywork and out from the slot in the trunk lid, reducing lift without the need for a physical spoiler. The car's exterior design is both elegant and aggressive, featuring flowing lines, a wide stance, and a striking front grille that is unmistakably Aston Martin.
The DB11 was initially launched with a new 5.2-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine, producing 600 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. This engine allows the DB11 to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 200 mph. In 2017, Aston Martin introduced a V8 variant, equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine supplied by Mercedes-AMG, producing 503 horsepower and 498 lb-ft of torque. The V8 model offers slightly different driving dynamics, with a reduced weight and a more agile feel, though it is marginally slower in a straight line compared to its V12 sibling.
Inside, the DB11 is a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology. The interior is lavishly appointed with high-quality materials, including leather, wood, and carbon fiber. The DB11 also benefits from Aston Martin's technical partnership with Mercedes-AMG, incorporating the latest in infotainment technology with the Mercedes-Benz COMAND system, rebranded for Aston Martin. This system offers navigation, media playback, and vehicle settings, all controlled via an 8-inch LCD screen.
The DB11 is widely regarded as a pivotal model for Aston Martin, successfully blending the marque's traditional values of luxury and performance with cutting-edge technology and design. It has received critical acclaim for its driving dynamics, comfort, and the way it moves the brand forward, setting the stage for future models like the Vantage and the DBS Superleggera.
