On May 23-24, on the banks of Lake Como, a select group of the world’s finest automobiles were displayed on the grounds of the picturesque Villa D’Este hotel.
While prizes are given out in a number of categories, the highly prestigious Coppa d’Oro award (the event’s Best of Show) was awarded to the 1933 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS with body by Figoni, owned by David Cohen (pictured above).
Cohen commented, “This is an amazing honor. I used to see this car every day as a kid, and to win this honor is amazing.” Cohen went on to recall as a boy in South Africa, he used to frequently see the Alfa while riding his bicycle! Cohen’s Alfa also won the judge’s choice award and the people’s choice award the following day at the public showing at Villa Erba.
In total, 52 cars were selected to compete in 9 classes. For more from the Villa D’Este, see our Photo Gallery.
