The 512 TR, introduced in 1992, was a significant evolution of Ferrari’s iconic Testarossa, boasting 428bhp and a top speed exceeding 186mph. Pininfarina revamped its front end, enhanced under-body aerodynamics, and added 18″ wheels. Production ended in 1994, with 2,280 units made.
The 512 TR Spyder you see here which is scheduled for auction by RM Sotheby’s next month is one of only two right-hand drive models converted by Pininfarina into an open-topped Spyder design. It was originally commissioned by Alfred Tan of Hong Seh Motors in Singapore for the Brunei Royal Family, known for their patronage of custom Ferrari models during the 1980s and 1990s.
This car features a unique color combination of Blu Cobalto with Blu Scuro Connolly leather interior, matching carpets, and a power-operated soft top. It remained in Tan’s personal collection and was displayed at Ferrari’s 50th Anniversary in Rome in 1997. Following minimal usage over three decades, the vehicle underwent extensive cosmetic restoration in 2023, involving over 500 hours of labor and an investment of $65,000.
With fewer than 575 kilometers (360 miles) on the odometer, this 512 TR Spyder is an extraordinary collector’s piece, offering a rare opportunity to own one of the few custom aperta variants of the 512 TR, meticulously maintained and highly sought after.
This one-of-a-kind Ferrari 512 TR will be available for bidding at RM Sotheby’s 2024 Monterey auction with an estimated value of $2,700,000 – $3,500,000 USD.
