Bid Farewell to the GranTurismo and GranCabrio
Maserati ended production of its GranTurismo and GranCabrio recently. The company also said there would be a new super sports model coming in 2020. In a new teaser video, the company said the model would come in May of 2020, so now we have a clear timeframe for the new model.
The teaser video doesn’t show the car. It does, however, let you hear the engine rev. While the sound is nice, it doesn’t tell us much about the model. However, with all of the electric cars coming out, it’s at least nice to know that Maserati is sticking with a gasoline engine with its upcoming model. It’s important to note that Carscoops did say the upcoming model would be offered with an electric powertrain. So, either this is a hybrid car or Maserati will offer both an ICE powertrain and an electric powertrain.
The car was called the Alfieri at first. Maserati decided that name wasn’t going to work and has been referring to the model as its “all-new sports car” recently. What we do know is that it will use an aluminum space frame platform. In early discussions, the car was said to have a plug-in hybrid powertrain with an all-wheel-drive system. Those early discussions might no longer be accurate due to the recent merger of FCA with PSA Group. It’ll be interesting to see what comes out in May.
