Automotive Art – Thom Montanari’s “A.J.’s Lola”

1966 Lola T70 Spyder Artwork

Artist Thom Montanari makes his “Art History” debut with a tribute to the 1966 Lola T70 spyder.

The Lola T70 certainly had a rich and storied racing career. This ex-Foyt T70 is seen here doing battle during the opening laps of the 1966 Los Angeles Times Grand Prix at Riverside against some rather good company – no less than 17 Lola T70’s took the green flag including, Donohue in the “Sunoco Special,” Gurney in the “Bardahl Special” and Surtees – all driving Lola T70’s . While A.J. parked his early on, Surtees went on to victory and the first Can-Am Championship – driving a Lola T70.
