A Family’s History

The family is an integral element of human life, and in many instances this is also true of racing. In that context, fathers, brothers, sons, grandsons and even great-grandsons from families with names like Petty, Andretti, Allison, Hill, Jones, Villeneuve and Unser spring quickly to mind, and it is the museum dedicated to the last of these that we turn to this month.

The Unser Racing Museum is physically located in the northwest section of the family’s hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico, but you can tour it virtually via its web site. Included among the several links across the top of the home page are those that take visitors to: Features, with short articles about various aspects of Unser reality; Family History, where you can find a family tree and brief bios of all the Unsers; the Brick Campaign, where individual donors help “pave the way” into the museum; and Scholarships, the museum’s program to help fund the Sanchez/Silva Scholarship that assists students from Albuquerque’s West Mesa who wish to pursue a career in the automotive industry.

Then there’s the museum store, offering a variety of Unser-themed merchandise, ranging from books and DVDs, to mugs and pins, to apparel and posters, toys and souvenirs. Take a look and see for yourself.
