The Tesla Model S Plaid has consistently outperformed some of the most iconic gasoline-powered supercars and muscle cars in drag racing. Thanks to its electric powertrain, its instant torque delivery gives it a significant advantage off the line.
It is powered by a tri-motor all-wheel-drive system that delivers an astonishing 1,020 horsepower. This enables the car to rocket from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.99 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 9.23 seconds at 155 mph, making it one of the quickest production cars ever built. These numbers put it in the same league as hypercars costing millions of dollars, yet the Model S Plaid achieves this while being a practical, family-friendly sedan.
But can it beat a Ferrari SF90? That’s what we are about to see as the DragTimes YouTube channel pits these two high-performance machines in a series of a drag race.
The SF90 Stradale features a 4-liter hybrid V8 engine with twin turbos and three electric motors. The combined output is 986 horsepower, 769 hp from the V8, and 217 hp from the electric motors. Ferrari claims it can accelerate to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and achieve a top speed of 211 mph.
Though the Tesla Model S Plaid and Ferrari SF90 come from entirely different worlds, their performance is surprisingly close. Want to know who wins? You’ll have to watch the video to find out!
