Aston Martin Vanquish
Second Generation (VH3): 2012 - 2018
The second-generation Aston Martin Vanquish, produced between 2012 and 2018, was a grand tourer that marked a significant evolution in Aston Martin's lineup, both in terms of design and technology. It replaced the DBS and revived the iconic Vanquish nameplate, which had previously been used by Aston Martin for a high-performance grand tourer in the early 2000s.

Overview
The design of the second-generation Vanquish was influenced by the One-77 supercar, showcasing a more aggressive and contemporary look compared to its predecessor. It featured a carbon-fiber body to reduce weight and improve structural rigidity, along with an aerodynamically efficient design that included an integrated rear spoiler and underbody aerodynamics to reduce lift and enhance stability at high speeds.
Under the hood, the Vanquish was powered by an updated version of Aston Martin's 6.0-liter V12 engine. Initially, this engine produced 565 horsepower, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in around 4.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 183 mph. Over the years, the Vanquish saw improvements in performance, including the introduction of the Vanquish S in 2017, which boosted the engine's output to 580 horsepower, improving acceleration and raising the top speed to 201 mph.
The car initially came with a six-speed Touchtronic 2 automatic gearbox, which was later upgraded to an eight-speed Touchtronic III automatic transmission in 2014. This change significantly improved the car's performance, fuel efficiency, and driving experience, making it more responsive and engaging to drive.
The interior of the Vanquish combined luxury with technology, featuring hand-stitched leather upholstery, a high-end infotainment system, and customizable options that allowed buyers to tailor the car to their personal tastes. The cabin was designed to offer a blend of comfort and sportiness, suitable for long drives as well as spirited driving sessions.
The second-generation Vanquish played a crucial role in Aston Martin's history, showcasing the brand's ability to combine performance, luxury, and cutting-edge design in a grand tourer. It also paved the way for future models, incorporating new technologies and design philosophies that would be seen in later Aston Martin vehicles.
Throughout its production run, the Vanquish received acclaim for its stunning design, powerful performance, and the driving experience it offered, solidifying its position as one of the most desirable Aston Martins of its era.
The second-generation Vanquish ended production in 2018, succeeded by the DBS Superleggera. It received praise for its stunning design, luxurious interior, and powerful V12 engine, cementing its place as a desirable grand tourer in Aston Martin's lineup.
The Platform
The unique features of the second generation Vanquish took the design ethos of Aston Martin into a new generation. The all-new exterior form was influenced by the One-77 supercar, seeing each carbon-fibre body panel take a taut, aggressive form.
Produced at Aston Martin's bespoke engine facility in Cologne, engineers worked tirelessly to create an engine worthy of a new flagship model. The process delivered clear technical advances. The debut of dual variable valve timing. Enlarged throttle bodies. Fully machined combustion chambers and a ‘big wing’ intake manifold.
The revolutionary Carbon Ceramic Matrix braking technology reduced brake fade and improved heat dissipation. Improving handling and driver feel this silicon-injected carbon fibre was an incredible 12kg lighter than equivalent steel discs.
2nd Generation Vanquish Models & Derivatives
In addition to the core Vanquish Coupe and Volante models, in 2017 we saw an upgraded Vanquish S. It was a performance-oriented variant with increased power (600 horsepower), improved aerodynamics, and sharper handling. There were many niche, limited edition Vanquish models during the second generation, a playbook that Aston seems to have copied from Lamborghini. The most interesting of these collaborations once again was with Zagato, a limited-edition collaboration with Zagato featuring unique design elements and even more power (661 horsepower).
