espite slowing sales, Detroit and the surrounding area proved they can still support a leading concours such as the 29th Meadow Brook Concours.
Held over the weekend, Meadow Brook started with a motoring tour that ended up at the Chrysler museum and some entertaining laps around Chrysler’s proving grounds.
On Saturday, the Alfa Romeo Owner’s Club (AROC) filled a field with impressive cars, including the three Bertone BATs, while RM Auctions staged their annual sale at the same time. A top bid of $810 000 USD predictably went to Marmon’s very last prototype, the HCM V12.
The concours brought together a massive field which was organized by a new executive committee. Focus was on Alfa Romeo and, along with the BATS, many classic 8Cs were present to celebrate the North American debut of the 8C Competizione. The organizers made a big deal about the appearance of a Bugatti Type 41 Royale and also kept Meadow Brook’s typical emphasis on fashion.
