[Book Review] Sebring 12 Hours: The Official Record Book

Sebring 12 Hours: The Official Record Book

By Ken Breslauer

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of its 12-hour endurance classic, Sebring International Raceway has produced an improved and updated Record Book chronicling the event. Produced by the track’s historian and public relations director, Ken Breslauer, the softcover book includes detailed results of every running of the 12 Hours as well as the 6-hour Sam Collier Memorial contest of 1950 and the United States Grand Prix Formula One race held in 1959.

Perhaps our only disappointment is that results from the track’s 1966, ’67 and ’68 Trans-Ams and 1969 and 1970 Formula 5000 rounds were omitted, an extra bit of effort that could have provided a more complete record of the airport circuit’s professional races.

That aside, however, this book should be a template for any track wishing to present its history as each year’s results and summary lap chart are accompanied by photographs of the top 10 finishers (with only one of 600 images unavailable). There are also photos of the facility during its early years and map diagrams showing the evolution of the circuit through the decades. Available for $40 (plus postage) directly from the track by visiting www.sebringraceway.com or by phoning (800) 626-7223.
