Forest Grove Concours (2017) – Recap & Photo Gallery

A 1937 Cord 812 Phaeton Supercharged (above, photo courtesy of the Forest Grove Concours) owned by Norman and Judi Noakes of Lake Oswego, Oregon, was awarded Best In Show at the 2017 Forest Grove Concours d’Elegance, presented by the Rotary Club of Forest Grove, on July 16, 2017. The Cord also won Class C4 for Classic Open Cars from 1936-1948.

Noakes found the car hiding in a barn in Granville, Utah, that was owned by Aaron McBride, who had been the head mechanic for the Cord factory. McBride traveled around the country on behalf of Cord, repairing the cars for the clients who purchased Cords, Auburns and Duesenbergs. He was also the head mechanic when Cord set the land speed record of 110-mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats, making it the fastest street car at the time.

He purchased the car in February 2013 and shipped it to Eckert Restoration in Molalla, Oregon, for a full body-off restoration, which took the next four years. After winning the Forest Grove Concours, Noakes plans are to take to Cord to the Auburn, Cord and Duesenberg meet at the end of August 2017 for judging in the city of Auburn, Indiana, where the Cord was built in 1937.
