“Flat out like a lizard drinking!” Came the response from Andrew Woodall when I asked him how he was. It was a Monday afternoon and in a couple of days Andrew was heading off to Winton Motor Raceway, in the middle of the Australian state of Victoria for the 39th running of the annual Historic Winton race meeting. Organized by the Austin 7 Club, Historic Winton draws hundreds of historic cars and motorcycles for this event, and that’s just in the car park. While not restricted to pre- and immediate post-WW2 cars, they do predominate. Then there are the historic motorcycles and sidecars.

The author, a long-time admirer of clubman-type cars, found the Slotus produced good power and torque, with handling that was enjoyably direct.

Andrew had entered for the meeting and said that he had a zillion things to do before leaving for the circuit some 450 miles to the south. Despite this, he kindly gave up his afternoon so that I could get my bum into what could be described as the first clubman-style car made in Australia.
