One of the anniversaries celebrated at the 2014 Goodwood Revival Meeting was 50 years since Jackie Stewart won his first single-seater race, at Goodwood. Goodwood’s airfield manager, Robin McKay, had seen Jackie race (for Ecurie Ecosse) and he convinced Ken Tyrrell to give him a trial.
Ken arrived at Goodwood with a Cooper plus Bruce McLaren to set a benchmark time, which Jackie then beat. Bruce went out again and was faster, but Jackie was faster still. Thus was formed one of the great partnerships in motor racing history.
