As historic racers, to some extent our “Holy Grail” is to find a racecar with real, documented history. As such, we scour the globe (and the Internet) looking not just for a great car, but one with its original logbook. With this in mind, I recently found myself in the unusual position of being in possession of a period logbook…without any car.
It all started when one of our dedicated subscribers stopped by our office, with a big cardboard box. He had recently downsized into a much smaller house and had decided that he wanted to find a good home for a number of vintage car books and magazines. I don’t know if he knew that I have special “problem” with collecting automotive books (is there a 12-step program, for bibliophilia?), but he certainly came to the right place! After wading through this awesome bundle of dusty joy, I noticed a small blue pamphlet, trapped at the bottom of the box. Even before I turned it over, I knew right away it was an SCCA logbook, and from the worn and tattered look of it, it appeared to be an older one.
