USRRC
by Mike Martin
Author Mike Martin has written what surely will become the reference book for the United States Road Racing Championship (USRRC). Martin spent several years collecting photos, race results, statistics and other appropriate information from a wide variety of sources to form the nucleus of the book.
The USRRC was the pre-eminent professional road race series in the United States, until eclipsed by the more popular Can-Am. Many of the best sports car racers of the day took part, including George Follmer, Jim Hall, Augie Pabst, Ken Miles, Walt Hansgen, Dick Guldstrand, Dave MacDonald and Lothar Motschenbacher.
This is an excellent, large-format book printed on high-quality paper with 344 pages and over 500 color and black/white images. It is divided into six chapters, one for each year the series was held, 1963-’68. There are also two appendices containing a variety of statistical information and track maps for each venue used in the series.
Within each chapter (year), coverage of individual races opens with an image of the race program cover, followed by a summary of how the race unfolded, supported by numerous photos and a listing of the finishing order. A seasonal summary page with final standings for both drivers and manufacturers closes each chapter. Any racing enthusiast, historian or writer will find this a very useful addition to their motorsports library.
