Sinkhole Swallows Part of Corvette Museum

In the early morning hours, on February 12, a sinkhole opened up under the “Skydome” of the National Corvette Museum, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, swallowing eight significant Corvettes.

According to sources inside the museum, the local fire department estimated the size of the hole to be 40 feet across and 25-30 feet deep. The eight cars swallowed by the expanding hole included: a 1993 ZR-1 Spyder on loan from General Motors; a 2009 ZR1 “Blue Devil” on loan from General Motors; the one-millionth Corvette built; a 1984 PPG Pace Car; a 1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette; a 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette; and the 2009 1.5 millionth Corvette. None of the cars affected were on loan from individuals.
