A new record was set for a Mustang selling at auction during Mecum’s 26th Original Spring Classic, May 14-19, 2013, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Six days and 75 hours of auction action took a total of 2,350 lots cross the block—including Road Art and racing memorabilia from the “Grumpy” Jenkins estate—with total sales for the event reaching $49.2 million. Of the 1,706 vehicles offered, 1,142 went to new homes, achieving a 67 percent sell-through rate for the weeklong event.
Top sale honors went to the legendary, one-of-one Shelby Mustang supercar, the 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake, with a record-setting hammer price of $1.3 million. The most powerful Shelby GT500 ever produced can now add “most valuable Mustang” to its long list of accolades.
Other top sales included the 1967 Ford Mustang Eleanor Hero Car used in Touchstone Pictures’ Gone in 60 Seconds selling for an astonishing $1,000,000 and a 427/400hp 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible selling for $610,000. For more results visit www.mecum.com
