Company Profile – Kevin Kay Restorations

Kevin Kay Restorations

Founder Kevin Kay was working in the foreign car parts business some 30 years ago, when he purchased his first Aston Martin, a DB2/4. Kay decided to restore the car himself, and after showing his pride and joy at a number of events, he began to attract a following of enthusiasts interested in having him do the same for their cars. Within five years, Kay left the parts business behind and began restoring European classics full time.

Over the following years, Kay restored a wide variety of classics, including such names as Talbot-Lago, Hispano-Suiza, Duesenberg, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes-Benz and others. At its core, however, his growing restoration business continued to carve a niche for itself in Aston Martins of the 1950s and 1960s. While Kay and his staff still service and restore a broad cross-section of classics, their reputation in the Aston Martin world has resulted in the vast majority of their work being devoted to the cars from Feltham and Newport Pagnell. Kay-restored Aston Martins have won numerous national and international honors, including seven category awards at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

From his 9,000-sq.ft facility, in Redding, California, Kay and his nine staff members undertake all aspects of a vehicle’s restoration, including engine building, metal fabrication and repair, parts fabrication and paint work. Only chrome and upholstery are sent out-of-house.

While European cars have dominated Kay’s shop for the past 30 years, over the course of the most recent six or seven years, that range has expanded to also include British and European motorcycles, as well. With a dedicated technician devoted to motorcycles, Kay Restorations has also restored outstanding examples from Norton, BSA, Velocette, Royal Enfield and BMW, just to name a few.

According to Kay, “Our mission is to satisfy the wishes of the discriminating enthusiast, whether to show their pride and joy at concours or drive in the California Mille. When half-measures will not suffice, we are at your service.”
