Ecurie Ecosse is a private racing organization based in Scotland that’s probably best known for having twice won Le Mans overall with Jaguar D-Types, while also giving early support to a pair of local youngsters named Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart. Those are not the legendary squad’s sole accomplishments, however, as this month’s Racecar Profile looks at the Buick-powered Tojeiro sports car the team campaigned in the mid-1960s.

Founded in 1951 by accountant David Murray and ace race wrench Walter “Wilkie” Wilkinson, the team was an offshoot of Merchiston Motors in Edinburgh, where Wilkinson’s presence drew in the customers. Wilkinson directed the preparation of the Jags that won Le Mans in ’56 and ’57, and later went on to help Graham Hill win the F1 World Championship with BRM.

While most readers will likely want to click on the “Memories” link in the bar across the top of the home page to delve into the team’s history, the site offers other options as well. Among them are “Ecurie Ecosse 2012” which provides updates about the team’s current programs in the British GT Championship, “News and Views,” a “Gallery” featuring photos from the ’50s to the present day and “Merchandise,” where team gear is available for purchase. Take a look and learn more about one of racing’s more significant teams.
