Harry Schell was an American driver, born in Paris, who spent most of his life in Europe. He was nobody’s first choice, but he was a safe pair of hands who secured works drives with BRM, Ferrari, Gordini, Maserati and Vanwall. He was also the first to drive a Cooper in a World Championship race: Monaco, 1950, in a Cooper 500 fitted a with an 1100-cc JAP V-twin.
