Ferrari 312P & 312PB
By Ed McDonough and Peter Collins
Billed as “the story of a great car and a great time in motorsport history,” this is the first book devoted solely to Ferrari’s 312P and 312PB models, and it features many rare and previously unpublished photos. The 312PB utterly dominated the 1972 World Sportscar Championship, winning every race in which it was entered and finishing 1st and 2nd at all but two (one where only one car was entered), while taking 1st through 4th in Austria!
Part of Veloce Publishing’s WSC Giants Series, this book—written by VR European editors Ed McDonough and Peter Collins—traces the car’s complete development history and provides race-by-race competition records for each chassis. Those results also list the drivers tapped by the Scuderia for duty in what was essentially a Grand Prix car with fully enveloping bodywork, men with names like Amon, Andretti, Ickx, Pace, Peterson, Redman, Regazzoni, Rodriguez, and Schenken. While their contributions are acknowledged in brief sidebars, greater length is devoted to rally ace Sandro Munari’s recollections of sharing the winning car in that year’s Targa Florio with Arturo Merzario.
