Phil Hill’s Racing Record

The passing of any legend will always generate a fresh wave of interest in his or her biographical history, and Phil Hill is no different. As you can see from this issue of VR, many are the tributes offered for America’s first World Champion racer.

Some readers, however, may wish to delve even deeper into the career that Phil crafted, and for the nuts-and-bolts-show-me-the-numbers folks among us, motor sport historian Larry Berman has assembled and maintains the record of every race in Hill’s career, from his 2nd-place run with his MG-TC in the Palos Verdes Time Trials of 1947, to his career-capping conquest, with Mike Spence in Jim Hall’s Chaparral 2F, of the BOAC 1000 at Brands Hatch two decades later.

As we went to press, this link was not available directly from philhill.com, but if you enter it as shown, you’ll emerge on the “Racing Record” page of the main site, where you will find links to results summaries for every year of Phil’s career. You should also click on the “Biography” link to peruse the comprehensive selection of information that it offers, as well as links to other areas of interest, including the forthcoming Inside Track book of more than 800 photographs taken by Phil himself. All a fitting tribute to a true American icon.
