Gold Ford GT40 Artwork
Artist Chris Dugan paints a study of the GT40 that finished 3rd in the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans.
In 1966, the GT40’s finished Le Mans 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. First and second were the Shelby-American cars driven by McLaren and Amon, and Miles and Hulme. They fought out the closest ever finish to the great race, the winning margin being, “officially” judged to be, just 8 meters. However, the car depicted is the gold-colored 3rd place car, entered by Holman & Moody / Essex Wire Corp, driven by Ronnie Bucknam and Dick Hutcheson. It finished some 12 laps behind the other two cars. The original picture was commissioned by the car’s present owner and painted in gouache, though limited edition prints are available.
