In the world of supercars, one-off builds are the epitome of exclusivity and personalization. These bespoke creations are tailored to the exact specifications and desires of their owners, resulting in unique masterpieces that stand apart from standard production models.
Check out these extraordinary one-off supercars including an honorable mention you might not expect.
Lamborghini SC18 Alston
- Builder: Lamborghini Squadra Corse
- Base Model: Lamborghini Aventador SVJ
The SC18 Alston was inspired by Lamborghini’s racing cars. The Squadra Corse motorsport department then took an Aventador SJV and upped its game with a 6.5-liter V12 engine with 770 hp, bespoke carbon fiber bodywork, unique aerodynamics, and a racing exhaust system.
This car was designed with extensive input from a customer who remains unknown but obviously wanted to blend track performance with road legality. It’s definitely hard to miss with the distinctive rear wing, side air intakes, and aggressive design. A real head turner.
Ferrari SP38 Deborah
- Builder: Ferrari Special Projects
- Base Model: Ferrari 488 GTB
The Ferrari SP38 Deborah is a one-off supercar commissioned by a passionate Ferrari collector through Ferrari’s Special Projects program. Its foundation is the already-impressive Ferrari 488 GTB, but features extensive customizations and design elements to make it distinct from the standard model.
Boasting a custom body designed, it draws inspiration from the F40 and 308 GTB. Under the hood is a twin-turbo V8 engine with 661 hp and the exterior is notable in its three-layer metallic red paint. This bespoke commission combined elements of Ferrari’s rich heritage with modern design and technology.
McLaren X-1
- Builder: McLaren Special Operations (MSO)
- Base Model: McLaren MP4-12C
The X-1 is yet another one-off designed and built by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) for an anonymous collector (the wealthy elite do want to remain unknown). This one-off is based on the McLaren MP4-12C but features a retro-futuristic design that makes it completely stand out in the world of custom-built supercars.
Inspired by classic cars like the 1961 Facel Vega and the 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540K, the X-1 features enclosed rear wheels, a distinctive carbon fiber body, and a prominent rear overhang all of which coalesce into a blend of vintage and futuristic elements. Performance-wise, it retains the MP4-12C’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine.
The McLaren X-1 made its debut at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and drew substantial attention for its forward-thinking design.
Aston Martin Victor
- Builder: Aston Martin Q Division
- Base Model: Aston Martin One-77
The Aston Martin Victor borrows from the already superb One-77. The design pays homage V8 Vantage models of the 1970s and 1980s, featuring a muscular stance and retro-style cues, but don’t call it a muscle car. The bodywork features exposed carbon fiber weave and unique green finish to enhance its visual appeal.
The heart of Victor is a naturally aspirated 7.3-liter V12 engine taken from an Aston Martin One-77, further tuned to 836 hp, and mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
The Victor is a prime example of how you can blend old-school design with modern engineering, and is aptly named after former Aston Martin chairman Victor Gauntlett. It has made appearances at various automotive shows and met with widespread acclaim for its vintage aesthetics.
Bugatti La Voiture Noire
- Builder: Bugatti Automobiles
- Base Model: Bugatti Chiron
The Bugatti La Voiture Noire is easily the most expensive one-off on this list. Unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, this custom hypercar pays homage to the legendary Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic. The hand-built carbon fiber body’s flowing lines, a long hood, and a distinctive dorsal seam are all reminiscent of the original model.
La Voiture Noire is powered by a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine producing an output of 1,479 hp and 1,180 ft-lb tq and was unveiled with a staggering price tag of $18 million. You can’t get any more exclusive than that.
With the ever-growing demand for personalized Bugatti creations, it’s no wonder why the Bugatti Sur Mesure has seen great success and continues to put out gorgeous custom builds.
Ferrari P4/5
- Builder: Pininfarina
- Base Model: Ferrari Enzo
The Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina is a unique one-off supercar commissioned by American car collector and film director James Glickenhaus. It’s a modern reinterpretation of the classic Ferrari 330 P3/4 from the P Series sports prototypes of the 1960s.
Legendary Italian design house Pininfarina designed a completely custom body and you can see elements of both vintage aesthetics with modern aerodynamics. The result is a sleek and aggressive silhouette that looks like it jumped out from a futuristic movie.
The carbon body features prominent a front splitter, large rear diffuser, and integrated rear wing, all necessary to take full advantage of its formidable 6.0-liter V12 engine which puts out 660 hp. This bespoke creation utilizes the Enzo’s six-speed automated manual transmission and debuted at the 2006 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Well-known amongst supercar enthusiasts, it has achieved iconic status within the automotive world as a remarkable example of automotive artistry and engineering.
Honorable Mention: Lamborghini Huracan “Burntacan”
- Builder: Chris Steinbacher
- Base Model: N/A
Chris Steinbacher is a prominent figure in the world of salvaged supercar restorations, known for his creative and resourceful approach to rebuilding high-end vehicles as showcased on his popular YouTube channel, “B Is for Build.”
Perhaps his most notable project is the Lamborghini Huracán, affectionately known as the “Burntacan.” He acquired the severely fire-damaged vehicle for $40,000 and undertook an extensive rebuild. The original engine was replaced with an 800-hp twin-turbo Chevy V8, custom carbon-fiber bodywork, and a unique manual transmission setup.
While hidden gems can be found through auction sites like SCA – Salvage Car Auctions, prospective restorers should still be wary of the astronomical costs of rebuilding supercars. For Chris, the total cost of the rebuild was about $50,000, significantly reduced due to sponsorships.
While it’s a salvage restore, it doesn’t take away from the fact that the “Burntacan” stands out as a one-of-a-kind supercar that combines both American muscle with Italian design, and even made its debut at the 2019 SEMA. Now that’s an accomplishment!
