Based on the Ferrari Enzo’s chassis, the FXX featured a significantly upgraded 6,262cc V12 engine, producing 789bhp at 8,500rpm, far surpassing the Enzo’s 650bhp from its 6.0-litre engine. This remarkable power output was 126bhp per litre for a naturally aspirated engine.
Its gearbox, incorporating Formula 1 technology, enabled gear changes in under 100 milliseconds, nearly as fast as Maranello’s F1 cars. The FXX’s aerodynamic design achieved 40% more downforce than previous models, with an adjustable rear spoiler for different tracks.
Production of the FXX began in 2005, with only 29 units plus one for Michael Schumacher, all pre-sold at nearly $2 million each. Although the FXX was the fastest series-production Ferrari at the time, it was intended solely for track use. Ferrari extended the FXX program with the Evoluzione, announced in October 2007.
This version had a new livery, revised aerodynamics including an active front spoiler, and an upgraded 6.3-litre V12 engine producing 848bhp at 9,500rpm. The Evoluzione also featured improved suspension and brakes, a gearbox with 60-millisecond shifts, and a traction control system with nine settings, plus an ‘Off’ option for daring drivers.
