Car Of The Day: 2007 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition

In 2007, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the 722 Edition as a tribute to the legendary racing driver Stirling Moss’s remarkable victory at the 1955 Mille Miglia in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR numbered 722. Limited to just 150 units, the SLR 722 Edition showcased notable enhancements over the standard SLR.

Equipped with a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8, the 722 Edition generated an impressive 641 horsepower and 605 pounds of torque allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds with a claimed top speed of 209 mph.

This special edition model featured various improvements, including a modified engine, a carbon-fiber front splitter, and rear diffuser. The 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels, upgraded suspension with lighter Koni dampers, a 10mm lowered ride height, revised aerodynamics, black-tinted headlights and tail lights, and carbon-ceramic brake discs all contributed to its distinctive character.

Inside, the 722 Edition showcased Alcantara and carbon fiber, replacing much of the leather and aluminum trim. This transformation gave the 722’s interior with a sportier and more exotic feel.
