This stunning Alfa Romeo automobile has gone from Italy to Poland to Australia to California.
This car came out of the factory as a five-passenger saloon, built in Italy for an Alfa enthusiast in Poland. It went MIA during the World War years, before surfacing again as an engine-less chassis. The car was purchased by a collector in Australia, where it was decided that it would be reconstructed to match the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Berlinetta Competizione that raced in the 1940 Mille Miglia.
That 1940 Alfa, driven by Count Trossi and Ascanio Lucchi, finished an impressive 8th at the Mille Miglia in 1940…the final Mille Miglia before the war.
This car is true to its racing heritage, with a period-correct engine, wooden body buck, and lightweight aluminum Superleggera (“lightweight”) body by Touring.
The car was up for sale at RM Sotheby’s 2023 Monterey auction, but the reserve price was not met, and the car did not sell. It was on display at the Classic Sports Racing Group Charity Challenge at the Sonoma Raceway, and was the object of affection…even standing still.
