Automotive Art – Matthew Stevens’ “Le Mans ’67”

1967 Le Mans Artwork

Artist Matthew Stevens honors one of the most significant Ford GT40s of all time.

After their famous 1-2-3 victory in 1966, 1967’s Le Mans saw continued success for Ford, with the MkIV of Gurney/Grant coming home to overall victory. McLaren and Donohue’s MkIV finished 4th, while the Andretti/Bianchi MkIV crashed at 3:34 a.m. at the Esses. The No. 15 car, the Gulf Mirage of Ickx and Muir powered by a 305-inch engine, did not finish due to engine failure. It was, however, successful at Spa ten days later, winning with Jacky Ickx at the wheel, partnered by Dick Thompson and this time powered by a 351-inch Holman & Moody engine.
