There’s a fantastic trend building on the Internet: it is individuals creating Web sites to showcase their old amateur racing photography. While the photos are not always of “professional” quality, they oftentimes reveal interesting historical tidbits, overlooked by the professionals of the time.
This month’s featured site is one of these “labors of love” that provide an enjoyable glimpse into East Coast racing during the late ’50s and early ’60s. While this site covers an eclectic mixture of street cars, boats and even dragsters(!), there are several pages of very early color photos taken at Connecticut’s Lime Rock Park and Thompson Raceway.
Of the two, the shots from Thompson are both of better quality and historically more interesting, as Thompson was only used for road racing between 1952 and 1967. Whether you frequented these tracks in the day, or are just interested in never-before-seen photos, this site is certainly worth a look.
