The VSCC and the Historic Grand Prix Car Association joined forces with Donington Park to savor the return of Auto Union Grand Prix cars to the Derbyshire circuit for the first time since before World War II. Audi sent a 1936 V-16 C-Type, 1938 V-12 D-Type, a host of racing motorcycles and Le Mans prototypes to be joined by the Donington Collectionโs own 1.5-liter Auto Union for a celebratory weekend, marking the 70th anniversary of the very first race at Donington. Donington owner Tom Wheatcroft commemorated the memory of Auto Unionโs great Bernd Rosemeyer with a new statue in the Collectionโs grounds in the company of Thomas Franks, head of Audi Tradition and Managing Director of Auto Union and NSU.
A number of racing luminaries took part in the wekendโs activities, including Ken Tyrrell and BRMโs Tony Rudd, as well as Eiji Taguchi, the legendary designer of some of Hondaโs most successful Grand Prix cars.
