This Ferrari SF90 Spider, currently listed for auction on Collecting Cars, presents an exciting opportunity to experience the might of Ferrari’s formidable hybrid powertrains. The carmaker first dabbled into hybrid setups with the LaFerrari flagship. Then there was a 6-year hiatus before the SF90 Stradale debuted in 2019. The open-top variant, the SF90 Spider, followed in 2020.
With the SF90 supercar, Ferrari leveraged cutting-edge technology to create a class-leading hybrid monster. At the heart of the car was a pairing made up of a twin-turbocharged V8 and a bank of three electric motors. On its own, the V8 unit makes a thumping 769 hp, enough for most supercars. The electric motors add an additional 217 hp, leading to a combined output of 986 hp, about 40 hp more than the LaFerrari. That power is fed to all four wheels via a crisp 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The Ferrari SF90 Spider is blindingly fast, one of the quickest performance cars on the market today. Top speed is officially rated at 211 mph, but the SF90 Spider’s party trick lies in its time-warping acceleration. 0 to 60 mph is knocked off in a scant 2.5 seconds, and 4.5 seconds later, the SF90 Spider is already at 124 mph (200km/h). It will also complete the quarter-mile run in 10.1 seconds at a blistering 148 mph. These numbers were the exclusive preserve of glorified hypercars only a few years ago.
The Ferrari SF90 Spider listed by Collecting Cars has been properly enjoyed by the previous owner, with about 2,130 miles on the odometer. However, all service records are up to date with the most recent service completed by Ferrari dealer Riller & Schnauck GmbH. The car is also still protected by the balance of an official Ferrari warranty.
The supercar is finished with the traditional Rosso Corsa paint with Scuderia Ferrari wing shields, a black roof and carbon-fibre accents. It’s a combination that blends well with the black five-spoke alloy wheels and red callipers. The car is fitted with carbon-ceramic brakes and rides on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.
The predominant theme for the interior is Nero leather, highlighted with Rosso Alcantara trims, complete with contrast stitching and, of course, more carbon fibre. The lengthy equipment and gadgetry list includes ‘nice to haves’ like front and rear parking assistance, cruise control, suspension lift and satellite navigation.
As of the time of this writing, the highest bid is about $97,570, with 20 bids submitted. However, the listing still has six days to run, and you can expect the amount to increase significantly as the time winds down. When new, the SF90 Spider has an MSRP of well over $500,000.
