“Spectre possesses all the qualities that have secured the Rolls-Royce legend. This incredible motor car, conceived from the very beginning as our first fully-electric model, is silent, and powerful and demonstrates how perfectly Rolls-Royce is suited to electrification. Spectre’s all-electric powertrain will assure the marque’s sustained success and relevance while dramatically increasing the definition of each character that makes a Rolls-Royce a Rolls-Royce.
“At Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, perfection is about more than making the very best products. It is a culture, an attitude, and our guiding philosophy. Indeed, it is our founding father Sir Henry Royce who said, ‘strive for perfection in everything you do’. Spectre has been conceived within this culture. It is perfectly in tune with the sensibilities of our time. It states the direction for the future of our marque and perfectly answers a call from the most discerning individuals in the world to elevate the electric motor car experience because Spectre is a Rolls-Royce first and an electric car second.
“This is the start of a bold new chapter for our marque, our extraordinary clients, and the luxury industry. For this reason, I believe Spectre is the most perfect product that Rolls-Royce has ever produced.”
Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars
The new Rolls Royce Spectre is the first all-electric car ever from Rolls Royce, but they are really confident in the fact that battery-powered cars have evolved to an era when they announced the entire product lineup from Rolls Royce will be electric as of 2030, so in little over seven years the Ghost, Phantom, and Cullinan will all be replaced by EV successors, and today we get the first of these future cars that enter a completely new market segment, the ultra-luxury Electric Super Coupé as they call it, while Spectre is a two-door, four-seat car, it is very large and spacious inside, in the words of Rolls Royce: “there is no greater luxury than that of space”
The vanes of the Pantheon grille are now smoother in section and a flusher fit, designed to help guide the air around the motor car’s front, while it took 830 combined hours to design the Spirit of Extasy alone on the new Rolls Royce Spectre, and while the latter seems to have been heavily inspired by the Phantom Coupé, the grille enhances the motor car’s unprecedented drag coefficient, which at just 0.25cd makes Spectre Rolls-Royce’s most aerodynamic motor car, ever. While the proportional demands of Spectre’s scale required Rolls-Royce to embolden its wheel strategy, this car is the first production two-door coupé to be equipped with 23-inch wheels in almost one hundred years.
On the interior the technological advances continue with the most bespoke features yet, drawing inspiration from the timeless mystique of the night sky, and not only for the headliner which we’ve seen before but on Spectre you can opt for Starlight Doors, incorporating 4,796 softly illuminated ‘stars’, these coach doors can also be commissioned with a backdrop of wood Canadel Panelling, which takes its name from the cove in the South of France where Sir Henry Royce and his design team spent their winters.
And if stars on the headliner and on the door panels just don’t do it for you, how about having a similar effect on the Illuminated Fascia? It took Rolls Royce two years and more than 10,000 collective hours to develop, showing the Spectre nameplate surrounded by more than 5,500 tiny stars in front of the fortunate passenger, and here’s the kicker … all this is totally invisible when the car is not being driven, a complete stealth look.
The final power, acceleration, and range figures are still being refined, as the extraordinary undertaking of finessing Spectre enters its final phase before concluding in the second quarter of 2023, but we already have some preliminary specs for the new Spectre, boasting an all-electric range of 320 miles or 520 kilometers WLTP, the powertrain is set for 430kW and will come with 900Nm of torque, despite a weight of nearly 3,000kg, Spectre will still be able to propel it’s 5,453 mm or 214,685 in of length to 60mph in just 4.4 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds), which isn’t bad for a 2,080mm:81.889 in wide, and 1559 mm / 61.377 in tall super coupé.
Clients are able to put in their commission for the brand new Rolls Royce Spectre by the time you are reading this, but the development is still underway as we speak, the next 12 months or so will be used for intricate testing of the production prototypes to optimize Spectre even further, this could also mean the aforementioned figures are subject to change by the time the first units will reach customers by the end of 2023, pricing will be set between the Cullinan SUV and the large Phantom.
Let’s admire some more official photos of the new Rolls Royce Spectre, a name which I can’t help but remind me of a secret agent movie, let’s be honest.
