Almost 9 months have elapsed since the Ferrari 296 GTB was first unveiled to the public, and it appears that the gestation period is also over as first examples of the car begin to roll off the assembly line.
This also means that the automotive press have finally been able to get their hands on it, with all the major publications making full use of the opportunity to take it on those proverbial canyon runs and circuit shakedowns.
Poised as Ferrari’s new entry-level car, the ‘PHEV’ 296 GTB is anything but basic, and I would even go on to say that it does enough to set the tone for what the future supercar landscape should, and probably will, look like.
Afterall, an 819 bhp car is far from ordinary, and its 2.9L turbocharged 6-cylinder hybrid powerplant is certainly a forward-looking blueprint. That combination provides a solid foundation on which the 296 GTB, and any of its offspring, can stay relevant for many years to come.
