It Is Testing at the Nurburgring
The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT 73 PHEV will take on the Porsche Panamera Turbo S in terms of which executive car is fastest around the Green Hell. The new GT 73 was spotted testing in Germany at the Nurburgring, suggesting that Mercedes-AMG is getting ready to release the car and see if it can win back the title.
According to Carscoops, in order to win back that title, the car will have to lap the full circuit length of 20.832 km (12.944 miles) in less than 7:29.81. That is wicked fast.
It’s at this time unclear what exactly the GT 73 will be packing in terms of powertrain, but it has been rumored to be AMG’s twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8 engine with an electric motor mounted at the rear. That combination should put out over 800 hp.
This would put the GT 73 well above its Porsche competitor when it comes to all-out power. However, power isn’t everything, and AMG would still need to make sure the car can go around corners easily if it wants to claim that Green Hell title.
I expect with the PHEV powertrain and the massive horsepower, the car would do a 0-60 mph run in something like three seconds or less. A top speed would hover right around 200 mph. You can check out the recently shared video to see the car at the track.
