A New Top Gear Season and New Cars Around the Track
Top Gear’s Series 28 saw Chris Harris do a review of the Ariel Atom 4. The Stig took the car around the Test Track at that time in the wet. It was an underwhelming performance. So, they did it again and found that it was faster than a Bugatti Veyron.
The Atom 4 went around the track in 1:16, which makes it the 13th fastest car around the track for road-legal production cars on road tires. It matched the Mercedes-AMG R’s time and the Porsche 991 GT3 RS was one-tenth of a second slower. The McLaren MP4-12C, Lamborghini Aventador, and Bugatti Veyron Super Sport were also slower than the car.
This is an impressive showing for the little car. It’s a bare-bones racer that’s street legal and features an engine from the Honda Civic Type R. That engine makes 320 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. It’s connected to a six-speed manual transmission. In just 2.8 seconds it can do 0 to 60 mph. It will top out at 162 mph.
The price on this Atom 4 is $74,750. While the car doesn’t provide much in the way of amenities as a pure driving tool, you won’t do much better.
