The Sussex Trophy race at the 2013 Goodwood Revival was held Sunday, September 15th at the 2.4-mile, 7-turn Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex, England.
The 2013 Sussex Trophy race featured World Championship sports cars and production sports racing cars from 1955 to 1960. The likes of the Aston Martin DBR1, Ferrari 246S Dino and 860 Monza, Jaguar D-Type and E2A, Knobbly and Costin and Knobbly Lister and Maserati 300S and Birdcage were all perfectly suited to perform around fast, sweeping curves found at Goodwood.
Veteran all-rounder Anthony Reid brought the curtain down on the 2013 Goodwood Revival with victory in the Sussex Trophy finale. Pole-sitter Julian Mahzub’s Sadler-Chevrolet Mk2 peeled off into the pits after the warm-up lap, allowing Reid to build a four-second lead within two laps aboard his long-nose Jaguar D-type.
Man on the move, however, was Rob Hall, who steered his Maserati 300S on its bumpstops as he deposed Emanuele Pirro’s Knobbly-bodied Lister-Jaguar on the third tour before taking Reid on the pit straight a lap later. But Reid wasn’t finished, the gap between the leading pair being just 0.1sec with five minutes left to run. The Scot reclaimed the lead into Woodcote with eight laps gone, while Hall survived a paint-swopping scare with Malcolm Gammons’ Devin-Chevrolet SS in the dying seconds to follow Reid home.
