Portland Historic Races (2013) – Recap & Photo Gallery

Report by Dennis Gray | Photos by Author and Paul Smith

The Portland Historic Races 2013 were contested June 28-30 at the 12-turn, 1.967 mile Portland International Raceway in Oregon.

Produced and sanctioned by Historic Motor Sports Association (HMSA), the 37th annual Portland Historics celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Corvette, and two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser, Jr. was Grand Marshal for the weekend.

In addition, HMSA and Unser, Jr. teamed up to provide the first in a series of workshops designed for racing drivers and crew members wishing to extract the maximum from man and machine.

The 2013 Portland Historic Races featured approximately 125 historic race cars, representing a wide variety of manufacturers such as Chevrolet, Ford, Lola, Morgan, Jaguar, Porsche and Alfa Romeo. Notable and interesting entries included the ex-Jim Clark 1967 Rolla Volsted Ford Indy Car of Michael McKinney; 1953 Pooper MkVII of Cameron Healy; 1959 Sadler Formula Junior of Bill Sadler; 1959 Deutsch Bonnet HBR5 of Arthur Cook; 1965 Crusader Sports Racer of Al Moore; 1959 Cooper Monaco of Tony Hart; 1962 Sabra Sport of Jacob Shalit; 1968 Porsche 908 of Michael Malone; 1964 Studebaker Daytona of Jeff Taylor; 1952 Everly Special of Tom Tompkins and 1965 Ladybird MK VI Special of Paul Ingram; among others.

Photographers Dennis Gray and Paul Smith documented the 2013 HMSA Portland Historic Races, offering the following gallery that highlights this year’s event. We split up the 135 pictures into two galleries. The first gallery starting below features our favorite images, all displayed in the full-width view of our website, while the second gallery (and race winners) can be found on the last page of the article and gives a comprehensive view of all the photographs.
