With the recent launch of the Aston Martin DBX, the company’s first super-SUV, it was only a matter of time until someone pitted it against one of the other super-SUV’s out there.
Enter LoveCars and a Lamborghini Urus.
On paper, it’s almost as if the cards are stacked against the DBX. The Urus packs a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 with 641 BHP and 627 lbs-ft of torque, moving a body that weighs 2,200 kg (4,850 lbs)
The DBX, on the other hand, brings to the table a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 pushing out 542 BHP and 516 lbs-ft of torque, with a body that weighs 2,245 kg (4,949 lbs).
In the first race down the quarter-mile, everyone expects the Urus to flat out monster the DBX. However, the DBX actually gets the holeshot and pulls almost a full car ahead of the Urus.
The DBX, without launch control fitted, beats a non-launch control Urus off the line in the quarter mileHowever, at the line, the Urus wins by barely half a car length.
The Lamborghini Urus has half a car length on the Aston Martin DBX at the quarter mile line (the closer blur is the DBX)The next race is more interesting and does show off the Urus’ strength, using its launch control, which the DBX does not have, in a race to 100 MPH, and then braking to 0.
This time meeting expectations, with launch control the Urus simply leaps ahead, and with its brakes being about the size of the orbit of Jupiter, hauls down from 100 MPH about 50-60 feet sooner than the DBX.
