Outbid the Others for This Purple Majesty
The Vector W8 Twin Turbo is a supercar from the late 1980s that is arguably one of the wildest from the era. Only 17 production models were made. The cars were made from 1989 to 1993. The most shocking thing about the Vector W8 was how it looked. It’s a wild wedge shape, and in purple, it looks even more outlandish. The model you see here is for sales at RM Sotheby’s auction in Arizona.
This particular car is serial number 009. It was ordered in 1989 and delivered in 1991. This original owner kept the car in his collection until this auction, so it has been well cared for. The car has covered only 2,268 miles in its entire life. That’s roughly 78 miles a year. This car is in like-new condition.
Power in the Vector W8 is a twin-turbo 6.0-liter V8 engine pulled from the front-engined belly of a Corvette that produces 625 hp and 649 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is a three-speed automatic, a General Motors find as well. When new, Vector claimed a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds, which is still fast today.
The interior of the car looks immaculate. It’s very jet cockpit-esque. It’s pretty futuristic for the time, with a large screen to the left of the steering wheel. The instrument cluster also has a compass, an hour counter, and more buttons and switches than you’ll know what to do with.
This car is set to cross the auction block on January 17. The auction house estimates the car will bring between $300,000 and $450,000.
