This Is the Way You Want Your LC
Lexus has revealed the LC500 Convertible at the LA Auto Show. The car comes after a prototype that looked close to production-ready appeared at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July. The car looks quite a lot like the prototype, and that’s a very good thing.
The LC500 Convertible comes with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine. The engine puts out 471 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. That power is routed to the rear wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission. The company says the car is good for a 0-60 time of about four and a half seconds and a top speed of 168 mph.
The convertible roof will open and close in about 15 seconds and can be operated at speeds up to 31 mph. That’s pretty impressive. Because of the open-top, the car required some additional structural components for rigidity. Lexus used magnesium and aluminum to keep the car’s overall weight from ballooning too much. The curb weight of the car has not been revealed.
Also not revealed is the car’s price tag. Lexus will announce it at a later date. The car will likely be available in the back half of 2020. It is a 2021 model year vehicle after all.
