No Longer Limited Edition
The rear-wheel-drive R8 supercar was just a limited-edition of the vehicle, but now Audi has decided to make it a permanent addition to the automaker’s lineup.
According to Motor Authority, the R8 V10 RWD, as it is called, will be available if you want it. However, availability for the model is not yet known, meaning it’s unclear when exactly you’ll be able to get the car. This is good news for folks who want an R8 but feel the price is a little too steep.
Adding the rear-wheel-drive version of the car to the regular lineup will allow for a more affordable option of the venerable supercar.
“We launched a limited series of the Audi R8 V10 RWS at the beginning of 2018,” said Oliver Hoffmann, head of Audi Sport. “Now it will become part of the R8 family as a separate model, the R8 V10 RWD.”
The car’s price should be around $139,950, which is what the limited-edition model cost. It might even be slightly less. That’s more than a $26,000 drop from the all-wheel-drive R8’s price of $169,900. This could open up the supercar to more buyers in the last few years of its life.
Audi has plans to replace the R8 eventually. What will come isn’t exactly known yet. The replacement car will likely be either a hybrid or an electric vehicle.
