The Most Expensive Production Subaru Ever
This is the ultimate WRX STI. It is the STI S209. The company has just released pricing for the car and it is unsurprisingly high, but we weren’t expecting it to be quite that high. Subaru has set the price for the car at $64,880. The company will build only 209 of cars and all will come to the U.S. They should start arriving in November to drain people’s pockets.
The car uses a heavily modified version of the 2.5-liter flat-four engine. That engine with the modifications ups out 336 hp, which is up by about 31 hp from the normal STI. The engine underwent a pretty dramatic transformation. The company put in new forged pistons and connecting rods. There’s also a new intake, larger injectors, an upgraded fuel pump, and a new turbo made by HKS. The new turbo makes 18 psi of boost pressure.
The car also gets a short-throw six-speed manual gearbox and, of course, all-wheel drive with limited-slip differentials. The split on power for the all-wheel-drive system depends on the drive mode that’s selected. The S209 is wider a little over half an inch. It gets Brembo brakes, 19-inch BBS alloy wheels, and Dunlop SportMaxx tires.
The car has also been stiffened so that it can better handle the power. Its body is wider, and the Bilstein dampers and stiff sports shocks should make it a true track demon. The exterior has been enhanced, too, to give the car a more aggressive look and a more aerodynamic shape. Overall, this is the Subaru you’ve been waiting for.
