A Transition for the Model
Currently, the engine of the Jaguar F-Type sits out front of the driver. That could change in the future. According to reporting from Autocar, the company is currently leaning towards a layout that’s rear-mid-engined. That layout would transform the car. The vehicle could also become a hybrid or even all-electric, too.
The former Jaguar designer Ian Callum recently said that the next Jaguar F-Type could take some design and styling cues from the C-X75 Jaguar concept car. If that’s true, that would be a pretty dramatic transformation for the model. He said the following:
There’s still a formula within Jaguar for a front-mid-engined car. I have a preference for mid-engined cars. It’s certainly something I would like to see. For an electric sports car you could make a shape like [the C-X75] with the batteries in a T or H-shape through the middle. Or you could make it as a longitudinal internal-combustion mid-engined car. It would be short enough. So the style won’t dictate the drivetrain, but the drivetrain may dictate the style.
That’s quite interesting. It seems that the drivetrain that Jaguar decides to go with will determine what the next F-Type will actually become. The current F-Type still has a few years left on in its lifecycle, so if you like the car the way it is right now, you still have a couple of years left to pick up a new one.
