A Mid-Engine Caddy?
The last time Cadillac tried to do something with the result was the Cadillac XLR. It was … frankly, a slower, less impressive Corvette with Cadillac looks and slightly better interior materials. It was not very good, to be honest. So when rumors of a Cadillac C8 Corvette hit our ears, we cringed at the thought.
The C8 Corvette will debut today. It’s happening this evening and our sister site CorvSport will be showing the live stream of the reveal. After the car debuts and Chevy starts churning these things out it will likely seek out other ways of using the car’s platform and technology in other vehicles.
Motor Authority reported that Cadillac is likely already working on placing its new Blackwing V8 into a Cadillac mid-engine car. General Motors President Mark Reuss told Muscle Cars & Trucks that no one put the Blackwing into a mid-engine Corvette, but Fox News reporter Gary Gastelu said on Twitter that GM wouldn’t actually have to physically do it. The company has advanced digital design solutions it can use to determine if the engine would fit.
Cadillac’s 4.2-liter twin-turbo V-8 is built-in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It’s an engine that will be exclusive to Cadillac, which means if they fit it in the C8 Corvette, it will become a Cadillac car. Let’s just hope that it’s better than the XLR ever was.
