A Lambo Drop-Top Bows in Geneva
Lamborghini debuted its new Aventador SVJ Roadster at the Geneva Motor Show. While the car’s performance specs are more or less the same as the coupe version of the car, the convertible top gives it a look that’s truly its own. The removable roof features a two-piece design and is made of carbon fiber. Once removed, it fits securely in the frunk of the mid-engine vehicle.
Each of the carbon fiber roof panels weighs a little over 13 pounds. Once those panels are removed, the rear window can be lowered to give the car a true open-air feel. In addition to the removable top, the SVJ Roadster also gets rear-wheel steering, carbon ceramic brakes, and magnetorheological suspension.
The car utilizes a 6.5-liter V12 engine that develops 759 hp and 531 lb-ft of torque. It can shoot from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and all the way to 124 mph in 8.8 seconds. It has a top speed of more than 217 mph. You might want to leave the top on if you’re going to go that fast.
It would have been nice to see Lamborghini do some kind of power convertible top, but that would have added a lot more weight to the car, and the simple, removable top allows the company to keep weight down and performance high. Only 800 of the SVJ Roadsters will be made, and the price starts at $573,966. Get your pennies rounded up.
